Large Scale 1:20.3 East Broad Top

January 19th, 2014
The EBT Mikados in 1:20.3 scale from RY Models has widely been accepted as a Top Shelf First class out of the Box 1:20.3 model. Quiet and smooth operational qualities are the hallmark of these models. The quality construction represents the timeless skills of the old masters of model building from Japan along with the Prototype builders from Baldwin Locomotive Works from the turn of the 20th century. Planned with the assistance of the great late Bobbie Hall and inspired by the railroad of my youth - The East Broad Top Railroad.

All 8 drivers are in constant contact with the rail. Here is a testimonial from one of my customers.
"Hi Rich I ran your EBT14 pulling 18 hoppers. It was running at 8 volts dc drawing only .4amps , with .6 amps at start up. Amazing 3.2 watts In contrast Accucraft number 12 was only able to pull 12 hoppers at 24.7 v dc at .7 amps. Still respectable." Wade N. Woodcock P.E. CLICK HERE for Video

The Locomotives are pre-wired for Straight DC Running. Another method of operating, Radio Control, s very popuar and easily installed. The Tender sistern was constructed to hold RC Equipment,Batteries, and sound board. The Locomotive was built pre-wired for sound with a 3"speaker mount located in the Locomotive. A sound cam was also factory installed. DCC is another method of model control.

Update: April 4th, 2008
The first production piece of the EBT Engines was delivered last week. With the exception of color of boiler and tender, I was very pleased with it's quiet running and overall craftsmanship. A few minor items need to be "tweaked" but overall the model of #14 is quite nice.Yes they will be delivered very dark in color. From the underside it's equally as nice with a proper see through frame and brake rigging. A speaker is already mounted under the cab with sound cam on axle ready if you care to add sound. The tender was built with a battery pack in mind for RC running. Reserved models will be delivered in July. Reservations are open until the end of April. Few extra units will be built.

Project updates 11/11/06
The EBT #14 and 15 project are well under way.#14 engine and tender are being reviewed and corrections are being made on this 1:20.3 scale project. Shown above is the East Broad Top Mikado #14. Built by Baldwin in October of 1912, this locomotive has been active and in service as recent as November of 2005 pulling Tourist trains. With a total engine weight of 147,150 lbs, this engine developed a tractive effort of 27,600 lbs. Number 14, is one of 6 engines owned by the East Broad Top Railroad located in Orbisonia Pennsylvania. The railroad is open for Tourist service on weekends through the summer months. It's roundhouse mate #15, also a 2-8-2 Mikado is the engine currently assigned to tourist duty. This Locomotive, along with other EBT engines and rolling stock will be modeled.
